Donnie Kiefer is the 8th and current head coach of Tuscola High School Football. Kiefer took over football operations in 2007 and helped rebuild a program that finished 2-9 the year before. He is a native of Concord, NC and is married to Deborah Hall Kiefer from Bellville, Illinois. A graduate of Central Cabarrus High School, Kiefer was an all-conference athlete in both football and baseball. After graduating from CCHS, Kiefer played collegiate football for Lenior-Rhyne. Kiefer took his first head coaching job rebuilding the program at St. Paul's High School from 1986 until 1988 and has been rebuilding programs ever since. Other programs he has rebuilt include Southwest Guilford (1988-1990), Gates County (1991-1993), Andrews (1994-1995), Hibriten (1996-1998), Roanoke (1999-2003), East Carteret (2004-2006), and now Tuscola (2007-Present). At East Carteret, he took over a program that had only won 4 games in 5 years and won two conference championships. Kiefer also led the Mariners to Eastern Regional appearances in both 2004 and 2006. In 2005, Kiefer was honored by being selected as an assistant coach in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas- a game that North Carolina won. Former Tuscola fullback Patrick Fitzgerald was also on the roster of that Shrine Bowl team. Since taking over at Tuscola, Kiefer has won 16 games, lost 9, and has a winning percentage of .640- making him the 4th winningest coach in Tuscola football history. Kiefer helped lead the Mountaineers to their first conference championship since 1997 in the 2008 season, as well as Haywood County Championships in both 2007 and 2008. The 2008 season was the 3rd winningest in school history, only behind the 1995 season in which the Mountaineers finished the regular season undefeated and the 1972 State Championship season. Kiefer is currently working hard preparing for the 2009 season and gives all the glory to God for his rebuilding success.
