Brenda Louise Pope Williams
CONCORD - Brenda Louise Pope Williams, 62, of 433 Kingfield Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at CMC University Hospital. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Guy officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord. Mrs. Williams was born May 7, 1944, in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Curtis D. Pope and the late Lonie (Hagler) Pope.
Mrs. Williams graduated from Hartsell High School and Mars Hill College earning a B.A. She earned her master's degree from Appalachian State University. She completed additional course work at Wake Forest University, Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill and Oxford in England. Mrs. Williams taught school at Hartsell School for three years and 27 years at Central Cabarrus High School. She was the leader in creating ACT, which encourages students to be a significant part of their community and to vote. She also taught world history, U.S. history and criminal justice. She was well loved and respected by her students. She mentored numerous teachers as she pushed for excellence in social studies education. She was a member of Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wayne Williams Jr. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth W. Williams of the home; son, Kevin R. Williams and wife, Paula, of Concord; and granddaughter, Amity Brook Cameron-Sayer of Concord. The family meeting place will be 433 Kingfield Drive, Concord.
