MATTHEWS, N.C. - Dorcas McIver Morgan, 82, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a short but difficult illness. She was born in Lexington, SC, on July 25, 1926, to the late Rev. Ben Jay and Bernice Wingard McIver.
Ms. Morgan graduated from Zeigler High School in Zeigler, IL, attended the University of Illinois, Pfeiffer Junior College and graduated from High Point College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. Most of her teaching career was spent in Cabarrus County where she taught high school English at Harrisburg High School and later at Central Cabarrus High School. After she retired from teaching, she assisted her daughter in developing Rhythm Dance Studio, a successful dance school in Matthews, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Quincy Yates McIver. Ms. Morgan is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Eaves, and her husband, Joel, of Charlotte, NC; her loving son, Michael Morgan, and his wife, Larysa of Matthews, NC, and two granddaughters, Morgan Eaves and Kateryna Podyma.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center 6C ICU Team. A simple graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009, in St. David Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lexington, SC. Arrangements are entrusted to Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NC Baptist Hospital ICU Fund, c/o Office of Development, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
